SuperSearch Browser Add-On

Install SuperSearch into your favorite browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari), and you’ll never have to find the library’s website again! Learn how to install SuperSearch below.

Chrome
  1. Go to Settings in Google Chrome.
  2. Scroll to Search.
  3. Select the Manage search engines button.
  4. Scroll to bottom of Other seach engines.
  5. Add a new search engine by copying and pasting the following text into Chrome’s add a search engine fields:
    • Add a new search engine: SuperSearch
    • Keyword: supersearch
    • URL with %s in place of query: http://ezproxy.smumn.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&site=eds-live&custid=s8996554&groupid=main&profile=smumn&bquery=%s

Searching SuperSearch in Chrome

  1. Type supersearch into Chrome’s address bar.
  2. Hit the space bar or tab key (see example).
  3. Type in your search terms.
  4. Hit the Enter key.
  5. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  6. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch from your browser!

Firefox
  1. Add SuperSearch to your browser.
  2. javascript:window.external.AddSearchProvider(‘http://www2.smumn.edu/deptpages/tclibrary/search/supersearch.xml’);

  3. Select Add in the pop-up window.

  1. Locate Firefox’s search box to the right of the address bar.
  2. Type in your search terms.
  3. Select the red “S” icon to search in SuperSearch (see example).
  4. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  5. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch from your browser!

Internet Explorer
  1. Add SuperSearch to your browser.
  2. Select Add in the pop-up window.

Searching SuperSearch in Internet Explorer

  1. Type your search terms into the address bar.
  2. Double-click the red “S” icon, which will appear in the search options below the address bar (see example).
    • Note: If the red “S” icon does not appear, select the magnifying glass icon, which will prompt the “S” icon to appear.
  3. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  4. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch from your browser!

Safari (Mac)
  1. Install the OpenSearch Plugin for Safari.
  2. Select the Open button in the pop-up window.
  3. Select the Install button in the pop-up window.
  4. Once installed, come back to this page and refresh it.
  5. Select the magnifying glass icon with the red “1” indicator (see example).
  6. Select the green Add button next to searchEDS.
  7. Presto! You installed SuperSearch in Safari!

  1. Select the magnifying glass icon to the left of Safari’s address bar.
  2. Type your search terms into the search box that appears below.
  3. Select searchEDS from the list below.
  4. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  5. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch in Safari!
Safari (PC)
  1. Install the OpenSearch Plugin for Safari.
  2. Select the Open button in the pop-up window.
  3. Select the Install button in the pop-up window.
  4. Once installed, come back to this page and refresh it.
