SuperSearch Browser Add-On

Install SuperSearch into your favorite browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari), and you’ll never have to find the library’s website again! Learn how to install SuperSearch below.

Chrome

Adding SuperSearch to Chrome

  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon Google Chrome Settings Icon and select Settings.
  2. Scroll to Search engines.
  3. Select the Manage search engines and site search button.
  4. Scroll down to Site search and select the Add button.
  5. Add a new search engine by copying and pasting the following text into Chrome’s “Add a search engine” fields (see example):
    • Search engine: SuperSearch
    • Shortcut: supersearch
    • URL with %s in place of query: http://ezproxy.smumn.edu/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&site=eds-live&custid=s8996554&groupid=main&profile=basic&bquery=%s

Searching SuperSearch in Chrome

  1. Type supersearch into Chrome’s address bar.
  2. Hit the space bar or tab key (see example).
  3. Type in your search terms.
  4. Hit the Enter key.
  5. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  6. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch from your browser!
Firefox

Adding SuperSearch to Firefox

Using the all-in-one address bar (example)
  1. While you’re on the library website, right click on Firefox’s all-in-one bar.
  2. Select Add “SuperSearch” from the menu. See example.
    • If you don’t see Add “SuperSearch” as an option, you may already have SuperSearch in Firefox. Check by adding a keyword — instructions below!
Using a separate search bar (example)
  1. While you’re on the library website, click on the search icon in the Firefox search bar.
  2. Select Add “SuperSearch” from the menu. See example.
    • If you don’t see a little green “plus” icon on top of the Saint Mary’s logo, you may already have SuperSearch in Firefox. Check by adding a keyword — instructions below!
Adding a keyword
  1. Add SuperSearch to Firefox’s search shortcuts using the all-in-one address bar or search box, as described above.
  2. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon Firefox Menu Icon and select Settings.
  3. Select Search from the left-hand menu.
  4. Scroll to the Search shortcuts section.
  5. Locate the SuperSearch row.
  6. Double-click the empty space next to SuperSearch in the Keyword column. (See example.)
  7. Type supersearch and hit the Enter key.

Searching SuperSearch in Firefox

Using a keyword
  1. From anywhere on the internet, click in the all-in-one address bar.
  2. Type supersearch and hit the space bar.
  3. Type your search terms. (See example.)
  4. Hit the Enter key.
  5. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  6. Presto! You are now seeing results in SuperSearch!
Using the all-in-one address bar
  1. From anywhere on the internet, click on the all-in-one address bar.
  2. Type search terms.
  3. Do not hit the Enter key yet! Instead, select the Saint Mary’s icon from the bottom of the suggestion menu. See example.
  4. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  5. Presto! You are now seeing results in SuperSearch!

  1. From anywhere on the internet, type search terms in your search box.
  2. Do not hit the Enter key yet! Instead, select the Saint Mary’s icon from the bottom of the suggestion menu. (See example.)
  3. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  4. Presto! You are now seeing results in SuperSearch!
Microsoft Edge

Adding SuperSearch to Edge

  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon Edge Menu Icon and select Settings.
  2. In the left-hand menu, select the link Privacy, search, and services.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Address bar and search button.
  4. Select the Manage Search Engines button.
  5. Select the Add button.
  6. Add a new search engine by copying and pasting the following text into Edge’s Add search engine fields (see example):
    • Search engine: SuperSearch
    • Shortcut: supersearch
    • URL with %s in place of query: http://ezproxy.smumn.edu/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&site=eds-live&custid=s8996554&groupid=main&profile=basic&bquery=%s

Searching SuperSearch in Edge

  1. Type supersearch into Edge’s address bar.
  2. Hit the space bar or tab key (see example).
  3. Type in your search terms.
  4. Hit the Enter key.
  5. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  6. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch from your browser!
Safari (Mac)

Adding SuperSearch to Safari

  1. Open Safari’s Preferences… menu.
  2. Select the Search icon.
  3. In the Smart Search Field section, make sure that Enable Quick Website Search is active. (See example.)
  4. If the Enable Quick Website Search checkbox is already checked:
    1. Select the Manage Websites… button.
    2. Confirm that “lib.smumn.edu” is in your list of websites. (See example.)
    3. Congratulations! SuperSearch in available in Safari!


    If the Enable Quick Website Search checkbox is not already checked:

    1. Select the checkbox. This option allows Safari to remember searchable websites like SuperSearch.
    2. Close the Preferences window.
    3. Go to the library homepage.
    4. Open the Preferences window again.
    5. In the Search tab, select the Manage Websites… button.
    6. Confirm that “lib.smumn.edu” is in your list of websites. (See example.)
    7. Presto! You installed SuperSearch in Safari!

Searching SuperSearch in Safari

  1. From anywhere on the internet, click in Safari’s address bar.
  2. Type lib into the search box and hit the space bar.
  3. Type your search terms.
  4. Using the down arrow key, select the option Search lib.smumn.edu for [your search terms]. (See example.)
  5. Hit the Enter key.
  6. Log in using your Saint Mary’s username and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  7. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch in Safari!
Help! I don’t see the SuperSearch option!

Safari forgets all of its saved search engines when its history is cleared. Visit the library homepage again, and Safari will add SuperSearch automatically.
