SuperSearch Browser Add-On

Install SuperSearch into your favorite browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari), and you’ll never have to find the library’s website again! Learn how to install SuperSearch below.

Chrome

Updating the Chrome Add-On

If you installed the Chrome SuperSearch browser add-on prior to December 21, 2022, you will need to update your search link. If you are adding SuperSearch for the first time, follow the Adding SuperSearch to Chrome instructions.

  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon and select Settings.
  2. Scroll to Search engines.
  3. Select the Manage search engines and site search button.
  4. Scroll down to Site search.
  5. Find SuperSearch in the list, and select the pencil icon.
  6. Copy and paste the following link into the URL text box:
    https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&site=eds-live&custid=s8996554&groupid=main&profile=basic&authtype=sso&bquery=%s

Adding SuperSearch to Chrome

  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon Google Chrome Settings Icon and select Settings.
  2. Scroll to Search engines.
  3. Select the Manage search engines and site search button.
  4. Scroll down to Site search and select the Add button.
  5. Add a new search engine by copying and pasting the following text into Chrome’s “Add a search engine” fields (see example):
    • Search engine: SuperSearch
    • Shortcut: @super
    • URL with %s in place of query: https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&site=eds-live&custid=s8996554&groupid=main&profile=basic&authtype=sso&bquery=%s

Searching SuperSearch in Chrome

  1. Type @super into Chrome’s address bar.
  2. Hit the space bar or tab key (see example).
  3. Type in your search terms.
  4. Hit the Enter key.
  5. Log in using your Saint Mary’s email and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  6. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch from your browser!
Firefox

Updating the Firefox Add-On

If you installed the SuperSearch browser add-on before December 21, 2022, you will need to delete your old one and add another using the instructions directly below. However, if you are adding SuperSearch for the first time, go to Adding SuperSearch to Firefox.

  1. Delete the old version.
    1. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon IMAGE and select Settings.
    2. Select Search from the left-hand menu.
    3. Scroll to the Search shortcuts section.
    4. Select the SuperSearch row.
    5. Select the Remove button.
  2. Add the new version.
    1. Go to lib.smumn.edu.
    2. Right click on Firefox’s address bar.
    3. Select Add “SuperSearch” from the menu. See example.
      1. If you don’t see Add “SuperSearch” as an option, you may already have SuperSearch in Firefox. Check by adding a keyword — instructions below!
    4. Double-click the empty space next to SuperSearch in the Keyword column. (See example.)
    5. Type supersearch and hit the Enter key.

Adding SuperSearch to Firefox

  1. While you’re on the library website, right click on Firefox’s address bar.
  2. Select Add “SuperSearch” from the menu. See example.
    • If you don’t see Add “SuperSearch” as an option, you may already have SuperSearch in Firefox. Check by adding a keyword — instructions below!
  3. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon Firefox Menu Icon and select Settings.
  4. Select Search from the left-hand menu.
  5. Scroll to the Search shortcuts section.
  6. Locate the SuperSearch row.
  7. Double-click the empty space next to SuperSearch in the Keyword column. (See example.)
  8. Type supersearch and hit the Enter key.

Searching SuperSearch in Firefox

  1. Select the Firefox address bar.
  2. Type supersearch and hit the space bar.
  3. Type your search terms. (See example.)
  4. Hit the Enter key.
  5. Log in using your Saint Mary’s email and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  6. Presto! You are now seeing results in SuperSearch!
Microsoft Edge

Updating the Microsoft Edge Add-On

If you installed the SuperSearch browser add-on before December 21, 2022, you will need to update your SuperSearch link using the instructions directly below. However, if you are adding SuperSearch for the first time, go to Adding SuperSearch to Microsoft Edge.

  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon and select Settings.
  2. In the left-hand menu, select Privacy, search, and services.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Address bar and search button.
  4. Select the Manage Search Engines button.
  5. Select and then Edit.
  6. Copy and paste the following link into the URL text box and then select Save:
    https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&site=eds-live&custid=s8996554&groupid=main&profile=basic&authtype=sso&bquery=%s

Adding SuperSearch to Edge

  1. In the upper-right corner of your browser, select the menu icon Edge Menu Icon and select Settings.
  2. In the left-hand menu, select the link Privacy, search, and services.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Address bar and search button.
  4. Select the Manage Search Engines button.
  5. Select the Add button.
  6. Add a new search engine by copying and pasting the following text into Edge’s Add search engine fields (see example):
    • Search engine: SuperSearch
    • Shortcut: @super
    • URL with %s in place of query: https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&site=eds-live&custid=s8996554&groupid=main&profile=basic&authtype=sso&bquery=%s

Searching SuperSearch in Edge

  1. Type @super into Edge’s address bar.
  2. Hit the space bar or tab key (see example).
  3. Type in your search terms.
  4. Hit the Enter key.
  5. Log in using your Saint Mary’s email and password when accessing SuperSearch from off campus.
  6. Presto! You are now searching SuperSearch from your browser!
